Larry G. Lorance, 76, Oblong, Illinois went to be with the Lord at 11:05 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Martin Township, Crawford County, Illinois on April 15, 1935, he was the son of Chloris M. “Buster” Lorance and Oliaf L. “Pod” (Hill) Lorance. He was employed with Marathon Oil, Robinson, IL working in various positions for 36 years retiring in 1994 as a planner. Larry was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois. He was a former Oblong Village Board Member; Oblong School Board Member for several years; former Oblong Mayor and he served on many committee’s at church. Larry loved going to the river and net fishing; hunting; gardening; camping. He did a lot of volunteering for both the Central United Methodist Church and community projects.
On February 21, 1953, Larry married Norma Ilene Bailey, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie & Billy Spivey, Lori & Tim Hetzler and Peggy & Brian Weigele; seven grandchildren, Christine Spivey, Bailey Spivey, Brad & Sara Heilwagen, J. D. Hetzler, Ross Hetzler, Jennifer Weigele, and Nick Pressley; three great-grandchildren, Adam & Alison Heilwagen and Ashlyn DeVillez; a sister, Anita L. Catt;a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry & Brenda Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Jerad Spivey and a brother-in-law: Sanford Bailey.
Rev. Tom Brewer will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
